The 2026 Wellington Junior Surfing Champs were held on 27 April at The Corner, Lyall Bay Beach, after several postponements caused by ongoing water‑quality issues linked to the Wellington sewage plant. We apologise for the delays — ensuring safe conditions for our young surfers had to come first.

The 2026 Wellington Junior Surfing Champs were held on 27 April at The Corner, Lyall Bay Beach, after several postponements caused by ongoing water‑quality issues linked to the Wellington sewage plant. We apologise for the delays — ensuring safe conditions for our young surfers had to come first.
A major milestone this year was having the event included in the NZ Grom Series, giving every competitor the chance to earn national ranking points simply by entering, with additional points awarded for podium finishes. This added real significance to the day and lifted the level of competition across all divisions.
In the end, Lyall Bay delivered exactly what we’d hoped for: clean, playful waves and full sunshine from start to finish. It made for an epic day of junior surfing and a hugely successful event.
